Diageo case study
Diageo is the world's leading premium drinks business with a collection of international brands including Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker and Guinness. It operates in over 180 countries, generating sales of almost £10 billion a year. While a lot of the work for the annual Diageo Audit is concentrated in the two months of July and August, it involves many hundreds of KPMG employees in approximately 50 offices across our global network of member firms. The assurance work our firms perform continues year-round, and we undertake other specific tasks such as the half-year review results.
In the simplest terms, we strive to meet Diageo's brief. But doing that for such a large international group, with complex structures and enormous public interest and exposure takes huge amounts of experience and knowledge. So Diageo gets exceptional partners and specialists from KPMG and a strong, familiar team, offering a great deal of experience on the issues generally encountered. We are constantly seeking to build on our good long-standing working relationship with Diageo. KPMG's network of member firms also gives us exposure in all countries where Diageo operates.
A final word from Chris: "Working to the results announcement deadline is exhilarating and I find the pressure helps you perform to the best of your abilities. Having said that, everything is well-planned, there are clear responsibilities and schedules, and superb support from and for everyone on the team."
