    Internship
I started with KPMG as an intern in 1993. I was getting my audit degree at Texas A&M University — and had the opportunity to do an internship, working in KPMG's audit practice in the Dallas office.

    Getting Started

    Getting Started
After my internship, I came back to KPMG as a full-time professional in the audit practice in 1994, and was with the Dallas office for about five years. And during that time, I predominantly worked on technology clients in our Information Communications & Entertainment (ICE) line of business. And it was quite an exciting time to work in the practice, during the big Silicon Valley boom, where we were seeing a lot of growth. So I had a lot of opportunity on working on start-up clients and see not only how to audit those companies, but how they were coming together themselves. At that time, I also was a national instructor for the audit practice. So I actually taught some of our training programs.

    Rotational Assignment

    Rotational Assignment
I guess the biggest milestone in my career was being a national instructor and being involved in recruiting. Those are two things that I was heavily involved in, in my first five years - and kept me motivated. I had the opportunity to do a rotation in the national audit learning and development group in Montvale, and have an opportunity to live in New York City. So I did that for two and a half years. I actually had the responsibility of overseeing all of the Audit new-hire training and also the opportunity to be involved in a lot of the ICE practice's training. Although I loved audit work, being able to interact with the students on campus, and being able to interact with the faculty, that kept me motivated - in addition to training and teaching at these national audit training programs…where you got to have an opportunity to interact with professionals from all offices. The interaction with people has been what has kept me at the firm, and has kept me motivated about my, about the profession and the industry.

After having started my career in the ICE practice and even trained its professionals, I then moved back to Dallas, and again worked in the audit practice as a senior manager - working on consumer and industrial product clients for about a year. I was asked to work on the MCI engagement, which was the largest restatement in history. And I did that for about 18 months, and traveled 100 percent of the time.

    Returning to Career Roots
They had called me from the national office, and asked if I would come back to training. And now, I oversee the entire staff curriculum for the Audit practice in the U.S. So that's what's brought me into my current position. So currently, I oversee all of the staff training for the Audit practice in the U.S., and I also serve as the liaison to their global Audit training steering group for any global audit training initiative.
