What's Special At KPMG?
Think about an organization where you bring two things together and make it very special. One is the people, no question about it. Our people around the world are some of the brightest people at what they do. They're also very good people. They're enjoyable to work with. Match those great talented people up with a tremendous, tremendous set of Tax, Advisory, Audit clients. You have the opportunity to work with the greatest companies in the world. Learn what they do, understand what drives them. Their cultures, their uniqueness…and bring that back into your own career perspective at KPMG. So when you think about KPMG, think about the blend of our people and our clients, and the opportunity it creates for you to learn, to have enriched careers, and exciting opportunities.
How can I be successful?
It's like life. How are you successful in life? You have to step back and say, "What's really important?" And I think from a standpoint of what I tell people, first of all, be yourself. It's important to be yourself. It's gotten you to a very successful place in life already. The students we recruit and talk to are the top ten percent of their class. You've done something right to get where you are today. Don't forget what got you where you are today.
And secondly, as you move forward in the world, in the business world, no matter what happens, no matter what challenges are in front of you, never ever compromise your integrity. Because you can never get it back.
What can I expect at KPMG?
When I think about what people can expect at KPMG, a number of things come to mind. But I think most importantly, think about an enriched career. Think not just about work, but think beyond just work. Think about the communities you live in, and the social responsibilities. Think about the diverse world we're in today. Be it ethnicity or gender diversity. Think about an organization that respects all of that, and is very inclusive. Think about a place that your career can take you anywhere around the world. Think about a place that will be challenging and dynamic. The opportunities in front of us are tremendous. And the challenges that you can have in a career at KPMG really are only limited by your imagination. Where your interests lie, where your skill sets are, where you want to live, and where you want to work. And again, think about an organization that is demanding, no question about it. But also as one that allows you to give back to your communities. That allows you to have work life balance, and that recognizes in the world today, people want more out of their careers than just work. They want a balance between family, community, friends, and challenging career and at KPMG we have the flexibility and the opportunity to make all of that happen for you.
How can I become an effective leader?
Problem solving is a great skill to develop. And you watch other people and you learn from it. You watch that senior accountant solve that problem when you're an associate accountant. You watch that young partner deal with a difficult client situation. You watch that leader motivate their team at a time when things are really difficult. And you learn from that and you figure out what is the style that works for me? How do I emulate that to make me successful in my career and ultimately make me an effective leader?
And I think at KPMG, anywhere you are, if I was someone starting off today, I would always be looking up. And look at those people ahead of you. Who do you like to work for, and why? Why do they motivate you? Why do they inspire you to do the best?
What does KPMG believe in?
A lot of times I get asked the question, what's it like at KPMG? The cultures…the values. How does it all come together? And a couple of things I think really stick out for me. If you look at our values, I'd point out to you, a few that I think are really unique.
Number one, give back to your communities. Understand the importance of giving back to the communities we all work in. Respect for the individual. No matter what your background, or where you come from. When you're at KPMG, it's an inclusive, respective environment. And the one I think I want to make sure we end on, is I think the most important of all. Above all else, act with integrity. We are professionals first. And what we do as a profession defines who we are. And we can never, ever compromise our integrity. So if you want to work for an organization that respects the individuals, that gives back to its communities, and above all else, acts with integrity, KPMG is the place for you.
